This issue has nothing to do with the actual capability of a woman, as shown by the various countries with female leaders (such as Germany, with its Chancellor Angela Merkle) but with stereotypes that exist within our society. Because of all the stereotypes that exist, placing the woman as 'soft', 'weak', or even as a 'housewife' figure, America may not actually be ready for a female president. For example, in the 1984 election the female vice president was asked if she would have the nerve to press the nuclear button. This does not mean that a female should not become president. Women have more rights now than they ever have before, and those stereotypes are slowly, gradually fading away. Change happens because it's needed, and not necessarily when one is ready for it. America needs to change and learn to break away from those crippling stereotypes.

I do not believe that America is opposed to having a woman leader, it is just a matter of the right woman rising up to the job. The sex of our President should make no difference if the traits of that person fit the standard of a great leader. I strongly believe in voting the most qualified person into the Presidential office regardless of race or sex. When the time comes, and it will, I believe America will be ready to stand behind a woman in office.

On the question of can women fullfill the job duties and are we educationally equal to men I believe women are just as ready to be president as men are. However, socially I don't believe men are ready to accept a women president. America's society hasn't accepted the fact that women are just as qualified to be president as men are. They believe women don't have the guts to make some of the choices presidents are faced with and that we should just stay in the home or the normal women work force. However, I believe in time our society will accept women as equal as men and before I die there will be a women president. HOWEVER that women president will NEVER be Hillary Clinton.

I believe that women are just as cabable of leading a country as men are. Who is to say that we arent ready for a woman president? Who ever we elect should be the best person to lead our country, no matter the gender.

I think that America can be ready for a woman president, just not her. I think that a woman in office would be a good change, but I think alot of Americans dont like change.

I do not think that america is ready for a woman president becuase like renea said we as women are sterotyped. We have also sterotyped the presidency, thinking for a long time that only a man can do the job, only because men are seen as strong, and everything we think men are. Another way to think about it is by saying is america ready for a gay president? Women can do anything a guy can as long as she is strong willed enough to do it. Without that then she is just another person.

I'm not sure but I don't think Hillary will be elected anyway it's not like PMS is going to make her bomb another country anyway.

I do believe that we, as a country, are ready for a female president. The issue is not the color, religion, or sex, but the fact of whether or not that person in general will be a good president for our country. I am a republican and I strongly believe in republicans, however it does not necessarily mean that I will vote for a republican. A lot of people started thinking it was a mistake to vote for Bush a couple of years after the election I personaly think that he is a very good president. The world is on the verge of another World War and we need to be ready to stop it. I do not however think that we need all the troops that we have over in Iraq. But of course there is always gonna be a decision that someone is gonna disagree with. We have had good presidents and bad presidents and I do believe that we are ready for a change in the presidency.

+I think not now but in the very near future we can see a woman being president. Today we can see women being voted into higher offices and taking on more dominant roles in society such as the Secretary of Defense Condoleezza Rice. However, like renea said women are still stereotyped. I imagine that as time goes on we will see more and more women running for president and more getting elected.

I belive that in time america will be ready for a woman president when we find the right candidate and we are definately not ready for her to be our president.

yes i think we are ready for a woman president. She can be capable of getting things done as a man president can do.

I think we are ready for a woman president. Women are just as capable as running a country as men are. We have been through many struggles over the year and I think its time to go over another one and have a woman president.

hallianne said...

I think we are! We have come so far the past few years and i think we could handle it.

I don't think the U.S. is ready yet but give it another five years then it might be time.

we are not a equal country we say we are ready for a women president but i don't know if it happens i am sure she will be just as good as bush only better

Why would it matter if we had a gal as a president? isnt that discriminative towards woman if we think that she cant do her job? i guess it just depends on what she believes in and where she wants to go with our world.

I don't think we are quite ready as a nation for a woman president but the time will come when we are ready

DirtyDeeds said...

i think we probably are, but only if its the right one. Basically i am not supporting hillary, but another woman maybe.

I think the United States is ready for a woman president. Just as long as she can run our country and do whats best for the country.

jake kling said...

Sure just not Hillary. But yes a woman can lead a country, just look at Margret Thatcher

over time when we are ready for the right women president and definately not hilary

ya if she is hott

felicia said...

no. women are just as capable as men and many women have been ready to be the president of America but America is not ready for a woman president. if there is one soon most likely the people would have voted for the wrong reason and not because they completely agree with her views and think she would be the best leader for our country

Trachsel said...

It's personal opinion. Some believe there is stereotyping involved with the elections. But like I said it's opinion and that will never change.

Ren said...

if she's fit to lead this country then yes, but in the case of the upcoming election, negative.

joel weis said...

i think that we are ready for change but there is to many perple that are to used to tradition so it probly won't happen any time soon.

Margo said...

America is most likely not ready for a woman president yet. Their are still too much conservatives not wanting to give in to change, even though if she would be the best candidate, they would always find a reason not to vote for her.
I know American youth is ready for change as they grew up with the idea of equality, same rights for woman and man, working woman and so on. It will happen someday but I think it is still to early right now.

DI said...

sure, maybe in the future, but not now. But why should we break the tradition?

britt. said...

No, we're not ready. There is nothing wrong with a woman president, and women are fully capable of being president, but America isn't ready yet to accept one. Maybe in about 30 more years. Sad but true.

Casey said...

Ya i think so but just not Hillary.

bunnylover said...

Yes and no. It shouldnt matter the gender. It should be about who is the most qualified for the job. But society probably wont ever see it that way.

hAnNaH. said...

Although women are just as capable of being president as men are, it is traditional that we have a man for our president. Naturally, the men are supposed to protect their women, so no, I don't think America is ready for a woman to be our president.

travo said...

either way a woman or a black man being a president is going to take getting used to. I have no problem with either one except the fact Hillary will be our president kind of scares me.

woman or man i would look for the same traits and characteristics.
