Does equality exist in the United States?

I believe that it does exist. However we do not enforce it throughout our country. There are some hidden racsist, sexist, and religiost companies out there. And though they get sued and have law suits. They still continue to follow their beliefs. Our country will always have a different opinion on different things.

It is impossible to ensure equality in intelligence, ability, social status, or wealth but equality in opportunity is supposed to exist in the United States. I am not convinced that this is true though. If someone is born into a wealthy family they may have much more opportunity to pursue their interests and careers then someone who is born into poverty. I know that the guarantee of equality in America may not be 100% but our opportunities are better here than anywhere else in the world.

somewhat

I think it exists but we dont enforce it so there are still some racsist and sexist in the United State.

Doke's comment pretty much sums up my belief, but I do not think that America necessarily has the best opportunities of any country. It may be better than some, or even many, but I don't think there is a 'best' country for opportunities. It depends what 'opportunities' you're looking for.

Equality exists to a certain point in America. Yes, women and men can intermix jobs but into day's society men are still getting paid more than women who compete in the same job. As Americans we say if you work hard for what you want you can get it, but as Doke said social and wealth status play a part in this. For example someone who can afford to attend Harvard has a better chance of getting a job than someone who can only afford to attend a Community College.

Equality has came along way since back in the day, but i think we still have issues, like already posted; wealth, social status, sexist issues, and religion. I also think that equality intermixed with all of the people in America will never be even 90%.

I think that there is some equality in the u.s. but its not all the same everywhere. We still have those people who are racist, and sexist, we cannot rid the world of them because they still have the freedom of speech and the right to think what they want. So to somepoint it does and then it doesnt in other ways.

Yes equality exists but I also agree with some of the other post on status.

I agree with Josh. I also think that things will not likely improve in the future, because politics are still dominated by the wealthy. Look at any recent presidential campaign. The news seems to focus on those people that can raise huge contributions. They are the people that have access to the candidate, they control the policy. And they are not about to give up their control to the poor.

i believe there is but then i can also think of other ways that it is not equal.

Equality does exist, but not extensively. We have created laws establishing equality but some people have just shrugged them off. Even today some racist, sexist, and religious equality seems to be just sinking in with people. This can be seen in todays entertainment industry and politics. It has been slow progress, but progress nonetheless. Equality will never be good for everyone's standards but the government and people's idea of equality will continue to expand.

It is getting better all the time, but we still have things to improve on.

I think we all have equality but it's what you believe in and your actions.

No there will always be someone or a group of people that the majority of the people don't like, these people are not always considered equal in the United States even though they are supposed to be.

I believe that equality exists to a certain extent because there is still some problems with racism, being sexist, and religious things... We are trying every day as a country to grow more to being equal. It takes time though

Yes, but of course we are not entirely equal. Like a lot of other people i agree with doke. We as Ameicans have more freedoms than most. But we still are prejudice against a lot of things.

We are getting closer to equality everyday but there always seems to be another discrimination in this country. After all the years of persecuting blacks, now we discriminate against muslims and gays. Not all people are racist or sexist but we need fight it although it's a never ending and impossible war. The better we fight it though the better our country can be.

dylon said...

yes to an extent because people are hard to change and so is govornment

Equal opportunities exist for all Americans. Just look at our presidential candidates. A woman and a black man, plus our current secretary of state is a black woman. Years ago these sorts of opportunities would be unheard of

Ren said...

i agree with aaron. we have equal opportunities, it's up to us to take advantage of them.

Dustin said...

no it does not. some people, rich and famous people that is, are treated much better because everybody knows who they are and they just love them. i mean look OJ Simpson for example. now if i were to kill somebody like him i wouldn't get off. i will be sent to jail in a heartbeat.

I think that equility exists throughout the Nation in some parts.
For the most part it is represented in the social classes with exceptions. Many people have the same rights.

i think there is some equality but there still is a lot of racist and sexist and it proably never will be totally equal

felicia said...

more than in most countries but not completely and it never will. on one level or another things will always be unfair

holls said...

I believe it exist but it is not always used.. we are not completely equal in the world as much as people say we should all be looked as the same, we arent

dox said...

somewhat it does and doesn't but we all have the bill of rights

hAnNaH. said...

For the most part, yes, equality does exist in the US. There are a few things though in which it does not, but they are of much smaller issues.

britt. said...

Equality for all is an unattainable goal. Regardless of the improvements we've made, it will never be achieved.

bunnylover said...

No. Everyone is treated different. weather it be because of sex, race, or religion. Theres always going to be people that have there opinion of whats "better" than others. so No theres no such thing.

terry said...

does not exist because we have so many different negative sterotypes

joel weis said...

i think that equality exist in some form but everything is not equal.

Anonymous said...

yes we do have equal rights

Margo said...

In theory it does. However, the usa still has a lot of prejudices and with that many prejudices alive, people will never be completely equal. An example of this could be gay marriage that's not allowed, the practically impossibility of a woman to become president. We are told to have the same rights but I don't think this is something that can ever really be achieved.

travo said...

i think it does.

i would say no or partially. the right to equal opportunity exists, but even then, that only gives you an opportunity, not a garuntee for equality, sometimes.
