School Policy

Do you think intelligent design should be taught alongside of evolution in public schools?

Yes, intelligent design should be taught along with evolution. Kids should be given both sides of the story and have the opportunity to decide what they believe on their own.

yes.. i do not know everything about it and it would be nice to learn about it.

no i do not believe that it should be taught as part of the school curriculum because there is no scientific proof of it.But it should be left up to the school its self.

No. Intelligent design is not an accepted scientific theory, although many people are pushing science to include supernatural theories. That doesn't not mean that it is not an acceptable belief by any means...there is nothing wrong with believing in intelligent design, but it should not be involved in a science class. Science is based on what is tangible. Religion should not be involved in any biology or similar class. Now, I have no problem with religious classes existing in school. If you wanted to learn about these things (and for some reason you can't learn them at church or at home), then you could enroll in this course. You don't teach math in English; you shouldn't teach religion in science. If you want to give kids 'both sides of the argument', then why not teach the other hundreds of theories as to why and how the world came to be as it is?

Nah, I don't think it's the school's place to teach religious themes. There is supposed to be separation of church and state. If you believe in intelligent design, then good for you, it wouldn't hurt to hear some other points of view.

It's a tough topic, but you'd probably be in science class when this topic arises, so you're probably just gonna hear the scientific view. People need to stop being extremely sensitive to ideas, and chill out.

I think it is okay to teach different views on evolution as long as they are all taught objectively. I am afraid though that this would be a problem because you have to teach something you believe in, not something that can be proven. I also think that the youth of these days should first be taught how to critically think about things and therefor make the decision of what they believe theirselves, not what society or religion tells them to believe. (even though this is most likely impossible, they will always be influenced)

No, I do not think Intelligent Design should be taught alongside with Evolution. Science should teach it's science stuff not something that tries to prove it's theories wrong. If schools want to have separate classes for Intelligent design for kids who are interested then that is fine, but not together.

I really don't know that much about intelligent design to base a opinion but i would say that if they want to teach alongside of things like evolution in school its got to be wrong.

yes but it should be taught as like hey this is the other side of this theory.

i think students should decide whether or not they would want to take a class that reviews biology (with evolution...) and a class that teaches intelligent design. Students shouldn't be forced to learn either one, but they should have their own choice of what they want to learn and believe.

yes i think it would be cool to learn about and alot of kids are interested about learning about it

yes, I think if we are forced to learn the Theory of Evolution then we should be taught the other side of the story also.

joel weis said...

Yeah i think that your should learn about both sides of the story.

I think that both can be taught well and they probably should be. We learn about religion in history class so i don't see what the difference of getting a couple of lectures of religion. They are both theories so neither is right or wrong. Personally i think both theories are correct and a higher power made all living things and these living things have the power to adapt and change.

Well it would be kind of nice. Since like Holly said i have no clue about this, so it would be nice to learn about it!

Marisa said...

Yes i think everyone needs to know the stories so they can decide for themselves. Plus it is interesting to learn!

I think it should be taught but not forced on us. To have the knowledge of this stuff makes us wiser and doesn't mean we have to believe in either side, but if we are ignorant about the opposite point than we don't really know what we are against.

Sammie said...

I think it should be taught along with evolution so you get both sides. No one really knows a whole lot about it so I think it would good for it to be taught. I also agree with Ren and think it should be the students choice whether they want to take it or not.

I don't think that intelligent design should be taught per say, but instead mentioned along with the topic of evolution. It is important for students to be informed on this topic but there is not enough tangible evidence to cover the topic thoroughly. Where evolution is an accepted theory in the scientific community, intelligent design is still open to too many interpretations to be taught in science classes.

i would say that intelligent design should not be taught in public schools. Learning the theory of evolution from Bartels made me look at evolution as biology. Like he said , this does not mean that man came from monkeys. I do not think that intelligent design should be taught at this point in time, though when we get more facts and theories supporting it (big bang theory), that is when i think it should be brought into public school.

we are force to learn, but then they might not agree like we do so there could be decesion of each side of which way they think should be picked and understanded.

I think if the public schools are going to teach intelligent design alongside of evolution they also need to teach Creationism. If they won't teach Creationism then they shouldn't teach the others either.

I think intelligent design should be taught with the theory of evolution. It is a theory just like evolution so I think it is good for students to learn the other possibilities of what might have happened. Science is always being expanded upon and when new ideas or theories are brought up I think it is good to learn about them.

well i dont really think its a good subject for school. its more a of religious view and not everyone agrees about that. it shoudlnt be taught

yes i believe that this would be a good idea. I know that you are not going to make everybody happy whatever you do but I believe that this is as close as anybody is going to get.

Jonathan M said...

i don't believe that this should be done. i think there should be something mentioned but not taught in depth because it is religious and that is having the school teaching religion when it is not necessary.

toby said...

Not only is this a religious subject but it mostly is pointless to teach in a school as well. It basically is evolution with the fact that God did it tacked on. I do not think that it should be taught.

BAM said...

no only evolution has been a proven so it is what should be taught.

Dustin said...

i think that they should be taught but not in the same class because your always gonna have a teacher that prefers one side and not the other and they will only touch on the other side and give a more in depth opinion on the side that they believe in

elsie said...

yes i think that it should be at least be talked about, the students are not being forced to believe anything

callee said...

yes, religion is a big part of a lot of peoples lives, i think we should learn all we can about it. We learn about it in school so why cant we learn intelligent design in school.

Anonymous said...

I think they need their own class and the kids can decided which one they want to learn instead of talking about it in a biology class because then they don't hear both theories.
