Faith of a President

Has the candidates’ personal faith become too big an issue in the presidential race?

I don't think the faith of the president really matters. Religion in the U.S. today is so diverse that I don't think anyone really pays attention to it. I really couldn't tell you what denomination any of the candidates belongs to. If religion was a factor we would probably have a narrower selection of presidential candidates.

I think the religion of a president has become too big of a deal. Who cares what religion a guy (or girl) is. I for one could care less if our next prez prays each night to Jesus Christ, Allah, Kobe Bryant, or a salami sandwich. As long as he does his job to make this country better, I am happy.

A candidates' personal faith should have very little to do with their presidential race. Church and State should remain as separated as possible to avoid conflict between religions. A candidate should not be elected based on their religion because that is not the way our country is meant to be ran. Running a country based on religion would conflict the First Amendment because you would be forcing people of different faiths to abide by your own personal beliefs.

I think yes, the candidates’ personal faith has become too big an issue in the presidential race. The religion of them is personal, it doesn't matter a whole lot what the candidates think about this or which religion they have. There are o lot of more important aspects what they should argue about, like how they will help the people in America.

no, i think that a president should have faith. But faith in our country, that we as a country can move forward in a positive way. But if you mean by religious faith. no as long as the main goal of the person is to help the U.S.A. Then I'm fine with it.

I don't think faith should have anything to do with our president. As long as they go after the right things to make america better.

Im with heiter, i dont think that the presidents should have to be faithful. People in the united states dont ever pay attention to that in people. i mean some people do, but i dont think it really matters.

I dont think religion should matter when you are running for President or if you are President. In my opinion i would love for a President to know many different cultures and religions because i think they would have more open views on things. I dont understand why people are getting their panties in a bunch about what religion the candidates are. Many people have different beliefs and opinions and if they are not trying to push anything on you then just let them believe in what they want to believe in. Hopefully whoever wins does a good job for our country.

i dont think faith should matter at all. how many people are out there claiming to be good chirstians when they do loads of horrible s**t all the time? faith doesnt matter, a persons morals and ability to choose between right and wrong do matter tho. you shouldnt worry about what church someone longs to, you should worry about what kind of person they are. bush claims to be religious, but he has sent thousands of soldiers to iraq that have killed or been killed, that doesnt really sound like the kind of person that's really religious to me. so how religious they may or may not be is not the issue

I agree with Andrea. I do think the faith of the presidential candidates has become to big of an issue. The religion of the president should not matter, it may even be better for him/her to have knowledge in other religions and cultures so he/she can better relate to the mixed community of the united states.

I think his faith is too big of an issue. Somebody just had to open the religion can o' worms and try and ruin obama's chances. Religion is of minor importance, except if they are Mormon, then I have a big problem.

The faith of the president is an issue. I don't know if it has become too big of one or not? Basically I don't care what religion the president is as long as his religious beliefs have very little to do with how he is running our country.

I disagree with .. basically everyone on this topic. I think that the faith of a candidate is very pertinent to their presidency. I think that having a president with a strong faith in God is important. I however do not think that that is the only thing that makes a man (or woman) who they are... More importantly is their morals. I feel that they can be Catholic, Protestant, Mormon, Jewish, Et cetera... so long as they display good solid morals. I disagree a wee bit with Lauren also... a Salami sandwich.. OH COME ON :) tee hee tee hee!

I don't think that the religion of a president should matter. He/She should not be judged like that. We need to vote for our president on the big issues that need to be considered in this election.

i dont think that the presidents do have to be faithful. i mean the people of the U.S dont really pay that much attention to that kinda thing anyway.

I really dont think a persons faith should matter. Like nathan said everyone is so diverse today in all of their beliefs. Religion has no impact on how the president will do his job.

I don't think that their religion should be brought into their campaign. As long as they do their job and show that they can run our country right it shouldnt be an issue.

i dont think that their religion is a very big deal mainly because there are so many different religions in america

I agree with Heiter in the sense that it really doesnt matter what religion you have because of the simple fact that we, as America, are diverse. Just because you have a different religion doesnt mean that you cant be a good president, and vice versa. but if people believe that religion matters, then race will pay a factor and so will sex. which is not the motto of america, one nation under God, or Alla, or whoever.
