Safety or Privacy?

The Department of Homeland Security has just recieved approval for the Real ID Act to be implemented. What do you think? Is a national ID system un- American and threat to our privacy or will this Act prevent terrorism?

I do no know what the Real ID act really is so I think that this act may be pointless since we already have ID's. I guess I do not see what another ID will do because someone will always have the technology to get a fake ID to allow them to get to any place they desire.

I don't think that this new act is going to change a thing and its definitley not going to prevent terorism. I think all this is going to do is upset people becasue it will invde their privacy. I think in this case privacy is more important than safety because you would be infringing on someone else's rights. The government needs to start spending money in smarter ways that will actually be of use.

I think within this act they may find some evil people but for those who are not bad its an ivasion somewhat on our privacy. I will live with it though because im not a terrorist.

Well i think we all know how i feel about safety first. I think this goes back to the initial question of freedom or safety.... Privacy is a freedom we as americans should have. SO with that said, i think its an infringement on our rights, but like tan-man said, its just another ID what could it really hurt?

This is just another gov't make-work project. This will just make it a little harder for the terrorists to accomplish their task. If they want to blow something up, they will stop at nothing to do it. The government should be worried about our foreign image, as well as securing our borders. Not IDing the people.

I think I pretty much agree with the majority of the comments here. I don't see what another ID is going to help us, but if it is going to help with terrorism, I'm not sure. I have nothing to hide so it doesn't really matter to me.

i dont think it will matter much b/c there will always be people making fakes and buying other peoples id's and what not so i dont think it will matter much. i dont think it will really affect many peoples lives

Im not sure if I know what the Real ID act is. But if it is infringing on peoples rights, maybe it's not worth the problems?

I don't think that this will prevent terrorism because if they want to get away with terrorism they will find a way to do it.

I really don't care. If it helps terrorism and the illegals, then go for it, even though if people want in this country, I have a feeling they might find a way. At least for the lazy people, we have until 2014.

i think that it will help prevent terrorist, illegal immigrants, when i had to get on a plane you had to have your ID. Or else it took for ever. so i think that it is good ideal. It makes me feel safer. Any way most people have to have ID any ways.

I believe that most people dont care if they have to carry around another ID. I dont think it will prevent terrorism, they will always find a way to get away with it.

I think we don't need another ID. They anyway already know everything about us and it doesn't help for the safety. It will only upset the people because they will have to wait longer at several places, like an airport.
I also agree with the other people that the terrorist will always find a way how to get in publicity

I think we all should have IDs cause we all need it for all reasons. Theres some reasons we all need and it might take an ID to get it. Some people with fake IDs are stupid they are just getting themselves in trouble. We all need a REAL ID to get away with things like if you get pulled over for speeding or anything. You would need an ID to get away with things. So the government or anyone knows who you are.

doing this will not prevent anything. there will always be terrism not matter how hard we try. Unless you find every single one line them up and shoot them right between the eyes.

i think that the real id act is preserving our safety with a minimal infringement of our privacy! so yea..I LOVE IT!

I beleive that the ACT would further improve our security in this country. However, do we really need it? I understand that terrorists can enter the country with or without it, but it would be harder for them to enter. The security in airports has nearly doubled since 9/11 and i believe that it would not invade on our privacy. because its just another way of finding out who is who.
